Anatomy Questions (4) for USMLE, MCCEE, PLAB, FCPS, PDMC,MRCP………

Q- A 28-year-old man has a minor injury as a result of motor car accident. He complains of severe pain due to a scratch on his scalp across the front hairline.

Which of the following nerves is responsible for this pain?

A- Trigeminal nerve

B- Facial nerve

C- Vagus nerve

D- Oculomotor nerve

E- Orbital nerve

A- Trigeminal nerve- The scalp across the front hairline is innervated by branches of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V), which provides sensory innervation to the face and anterior scalp. Specifically the ophthalmic division (V1) of the trigeminal nerve, particularly the supratrochlear nerve and supraorbital nerve, supplies the sensation to the scalp near the hairline and forehead region.

Q- Which one of the following conditions is characterized by placidity, psychic blindness and hyper-metamorphosis due to bilateral lesions of the amygdala and hippocampus?

A- Kluver-Bucy Syndrome

B- Korsakoff Syndrome

C- Multiple Sclerosis

D- Post-pneumococcal meningitis

A- Kluver-Bucy Syndrome- This rare neurological disorder is typically caused by bilateral damage to the anterior temporal lobes, including the amygdala and, sometimes, the hippocampus. It can result from trauma, infection, stroke, or degenerative diseases.

Q- Which one of the following structures is considered a major intraperitoneal organ (suspended by a mesentery)?

A- Ascending colon

B- Descending colon

C- Inferior vena cava

D- Right kidney

  1. Very interesting question! I knew had a lot of nerves in the body but never knew how many. I have never heard of the Trigeminal nerve. When I looked it up it said that, its called this because there are 3 branches for facial sensation which would explain the pain that the man is experiencing from the motor accident. Very good post! I learned something new today.

    • I know. There are a thousand nerves in both the central and autonomic nervous systems. And every one of them has its unique anatomy and function. Thanks Lakisha for your comment.
